Autumn and all things orange
For some reason I always associate this time of year with the colour orange.
The bright, autumnal leaves falling from the trees and coming home to the glow of a real log fire.
Pumpkins for Halloween and magnificent, dancing bonfires to celebrate defeating that scoundrel Guy Fawkes.
Look at any Halloween themed isle at your local supermarket and it’s all very, well…. orange!
Whilst contemplating this, it gave me an idea… Orange is not only a vibrant colour but a lively, zesty flavour as well.
I like to take a small gift for the host when I’m invited to join friends or family at home, whatever the occasion.
Christmas time, spring and summer are all easy enough to source, while autumn is a little more tricky.
However my association with orange and autumn could be perfectly represented by giving some delectable orangey gourmet treats.
So what delicacies could I take along to show my appreciation this year?
Firstly I have only to look to some of our local suppliers for inspiration.
Mouth-watering White Chocolate and Orange Fudge, handmade by Katie Crunch (a little tip, always buy extra for yourself because it really is hard to resist!).
The Artisan Kitchen have a wide selection of award winning jams, jellies and marmalade’s made from the highest quality oranges. By adding a compelling mix of other ingredients and flavours, they have come up with some really wonderful little pots of pleasure.
My favourite is the Sweet Orange and Vintage Champagne Marmalade. However there are plenty of other delicious combinations to try.
For those who enjoy a little tipple, I found some lively orange spirits and liqueurs available from the Natural Grocery Store in Cheltenham.
Top of my list is Black’s Triple Sec or the much coveted Chase Limited Edition Seville Orange Marmalade Vodka.
Right, I’m off to stock up on all things orangey, ready to enjoy my favourite time of the year.
